Henry Green is from the Tsimshian Nation of Laxkwalaams.  Work for this amazing craftsmanship had taken Henry and his apprentices approximately 5 months to almost the finishing stages, approximately one week’s of work and she will be complete.  Henry Green has been carving for over 30 years and has taught over 300 students. We are working in conjunction with the Northwest Community College, our goal is to market the Pt’saan’m and find a home for her.  We would prefer if a local buyer would step up to have such a wonderful history kept in our beautiful city. The Pt’saan’m (totem pole) figures are a Killerwhale, a Standing Bear and 3 figures at the top of the pole. Henry’s latest world piece is at the University of Plymouth, England which a 21 ft.  Pt’saan’m stands. Traditional and contemporary mediums used to create this wonderful piece of history.  Henry has been self taught and has also developed curriculm for local art school, his dedication to the preservation of history is one of a kind. He is a rareity amongst his nation with very few Tsimshian artists . Henry works in various mediums from silver, wood,  guest speaking, prints and welcomes commissions ,works can be seen on my site here. We welcome you and hope you enjoy his pieces.

I am new to this site and have a friend who is on here regularly his name is Bruce Byfield and does some wonderful writing, I am a resident of Prince Rupert which is home for over 25 years, I am Haida , my spouse is Tsimshian from LaxKwalaams Port Simpson he has amazing work he is a Master Carver.  There has been an ongoing dispute that has still to date unresolved for our family.  Henry was housed in the carving shed which is governed by the Museum of Northern BC, to date we have not had a meeting with the Board.  January there were notices issued, memos throughout the carving shed that all users had to vacate the building, due to renovations.  We are now moved out of the carving shed and Henry is carving again, 4 months of not carving, as his spouse i am thrilled to see him carve again, there are still unresolved issues, the much anticipated meeting that was to take place never did the Chair of the Museum Board of Directors Wes Baker had shown so much disrespect not only to me but a Haida elder that was going to be present for the meeting that never took place, reason being, we were banned Chair banned an elder and myself from the meeting that Henry and his daughter Morgan  along with myself and an elder were to be present at, I am very proud of my spouse for his actions that day, he did not go ahead, the disrespect shown by Mr. Baker he had turned a much needed situation into a nightmare, he clearly provoked the actions of my spouse , for my spouse to swear at him and get mad, i would have done the same, intervention was the key and that’s what i did, Wes Baker was standing there on the side walk talking down to my spouse, pointing his finger at him , i intervened and said don’t talk to him that way, don’t point your finger at him,; we are all a strong people and for someone who is supposed to show professionalism and banning an elder and myself is not right.  We are going to request a meeting again after going through all of their requests and following through with what they want, I am a support system for my spouse and our traditions state having an elder present is following protocol, we want to be heard and the injustices done to us and my spouse need to be heard.  What we want is a working relationship, the Museum has not shown us that, nor have they approached us after this incident.  The carving shed governed by the Museum of Northern BC, in all the years my spouse has been there, they have done nothing to promote the artists or the shed itself , these are some of the injustices,  the carving shed was built from grants back in the 1980’s, I am curious if they are going to follow their mandate and keep it a carving shed for what it was originally proposed for, the Museum from the beginning has not involved the artists , their communication is by memos posted throughout the carving shed,  the disrespect shown is apparent that they do not want to work with the artists,  my daughter who is 9 years old her name is Sylvia Hill is Henry’s youngest apprentice , she is doing everything from bending silver bracelets, painting drums, transferring designs, she has the best teacher in the world and I am so blessed and thankful for whom I have and what I have, I am thankful for my children and everything that I am. In Haida we say Howa’a ( thankyou) Salaana (creator) I am blessed.  My daughter is Haida/Tsimshian, she is learning her traditions , maternal and paternal.
